Route 3 runs through or borders Secaucus and North Bergen. In North Bergen: The Lincoln Tunnel feeder along the southern edge; fast with narrow shoulders. In Secaucus: The Lincoln Tunnel feeder through the north end; fast, crowded, narrow shoulders. Exits we use: Route 3 at Paterson Plank Road and Harmon Meadow and Route 3 at Tonnele Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard.

Route 495 runs through or borders Hoboken, Union City and Weehawken. In Union City: The Lincoln Tunnel approach runs through the south end; breakdowns here are lane closures coordinated with police. In Weehawken: The helix and the tunnel plaza are in Weehawken; a breakdown here is a police-coordinated recovery with no shoulder. Exits we use: Route 495 / Lincoln Tunnel helix (via Weehawken), Route 495 / Lincoln Tunnel approach and Route 495 / Lincoln Tunnel.

A breakdown on Route 495 is quoted like any other: hook plus mileage to where the car is going, with the highway approach already in the plan.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority allows only its authorized garages to tow or work on the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, and we are not one of them yet.
