Tip #43: On the Turnpike or Parkway, the shoulder tow is the Authority's garage
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority allows only its authorized garages to tow or work on the shoulder of the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. Book with us anyway: once the authorized truck has the car off the highway, we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose.

Call nowHow the rule works
The New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway are run by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, and the Authority restricts towing and roadside work on their shoulders to its authorized garages. We are not one of them yet. That means a private company you call cannot legally hook your car on the Turnpike or Parkway shoulder, and you should be cautious of anyone who says otherwise.
Call us anyway. The dispatcher tells you how to reach the Authority's roadside help for your stretch of road, and you book the rest of the job with us.

Call nowWhat happens next
The authorized garage's truck brings the car off the highway, usually to the nearest exit or to its own lot. The moment that happens, our truck takes over and moves the car to the shop, the dealer or the driveway you choose, at our normal flat quoted price: a hook fee plus a per-mile rate to the destination. That way the long part of the trip is not left to whoever happened to be assigned to that stretch.
Every other road we serve, including Routes 1 & 9, Route 22, I-78, I-287, I-280, Route 3 and Route 46, is a direct dispatch from Linden.

Call nowSafety while you wait
Pull as far onto the shoulder as you can, turn on hazards, and stay belted in unless the car is in danger. Note the milepost sign and direction; both roads are marked by mileposts, and that number is the fastest way for anyone to find you. If you are in a live lane, call 911. Our emergency towing page and the towing guides page explain the Turnpike and Parkway handoff in more detail.
A word of caution: if a tow truck you did not call stops behind you on the Turnpike or Parkway shoulder and offers to take the car, ask whether it is the Authority's authorized garage before you hand over keys. The authorized truck will know your location from the Authority's dispatch. Anyone else should not be working that shoulder, and a car towed by the wrong company can be very hard and costly to recover. When in doubt, ask the Authority or the police.
