Towing prices in New Jersey: how a flat hook fee plus mileage and flat roadside prices are quoted before the truck rolls

We do not publish a price list because every tow depends on your vehicle and your destination. What we publish is how the number is built, so the quote you get on the phone at (908) 444-0129 makes sense and the receipt matches it.

Tow truck cost

How towing is priced: a flat hook fee plus a per-mile rate to the destination you choose

Every tow is a flat hook fee for dispatching and loading the truck plus a per-mile rate from pickup to your destination, added up by the dispatcher and quoted as one total before the truck leaves Linden.

The hook fee

The hook fee covers sending the truck, loading your vehicle and the driver's time on scene. It depends on the truck the job needs: a wheel-lift, a flatbed or a medium or heavy-duty truck.

The mileage

Mileage runs from where the vehicle is to where you want it, at a per-mile rate. Inside Union County and the near side of Middlesex and Essex, most local tows fall within the base mileage, so the quote is close to the hook fee alone.

Long distance: one number for the whole run

Beyond the 45-minute area, long distance towing is quoted from both addresses as one number that includes the hook, the mileage, the tolls both ways and the driver's return. Scheduled runs take a deposit at booking and the balance on delivery.

Tell the dispatcher where the car is and where it is going. You get one total.

Roadside assistance cost

Roadside assistance prices: one flat price per service, no membership

Jump starts, flat tire changes, car lockouts, fuel delivery and winch outs are each one flat price quoted on the call; fuel delivery is a flat delivery price plus the fuel at cost.

There is no membership to buy. You call when you need roadside assistance, the dispatcher quotes the flat price, and a technician is sent.

Jump start

One flat price covering the dispatch, the start, and a test of the battery and charging system. See jump start.

Flat tire change

One flat price to install your spare. No usable spare means a tow to the tire shop you choose, quoted on the same call. See flat tire change.

Car lockout

One flat price to open the car or trunk without damage. We open doors; we do not cut or program keys. See car lockout.

Fuel delivery

One flat delivery price plus the fuel at cost, with enough gas or diesel to reach the next station. See fuel delivery.

Winch out

One flat recovery price for a stuck but undamaged vehicle, lower than a tow because there is no destination. See winch out.

Dead battery, flat, locked out, out of gas or stuck? One flat price, quoted first.

What changes a towing quote, and what is always included

The quote changes with the vehicle (which sets the truck), the distance to your destination, and any recovery work such as a long winch pull; it always includes dispatch, loading, the drive to your destination, photos and an itemized receipt.

Vehicle type and weight

An all-wheel-drive, electric, lowered or crash-damaged car needs a flatbed, a slightly higher hook fee than a wheel-lift. Box trucks, vans and buses need a medium or heavy-duty truck, with the hook sized to the class; the dispatcher asks for the weight rating and whether the vehicle is loaded. A motorcycle tow is hook plus mileage, with no fee for the wheel chock.

Distance

Mileage is the only part of a tow that depends on where you send it. A shop around the corner and a dealer two counties away are priced the same way, with different mileage.

Winching and recovery

A straight winch pull is the flat recovery price. A long pull down an embankment, a pull that needs a snatch block, dollies under a locked axle, or a second truck as an anchor are said on the call and added to the quote, never on scene without your approval.

Always included

Dispatch, loading, the drive to your destination, photos at pickup and drop-off, one passenger in the cab when there is room, and an itemized receipt for your insurer or roadside plan.

Describe the vehicle and the scene. The quote reflects exactly that.

What you will never see on a receipt from us

No night, weekend, holiday or fuel surcharge, no passenger fee, no administrative fee, no storage, and no charge that was not in the quote.

The quote is the receipt. There is no surcharge for the hour, the day or the weather, and no storage because your vehicle goes where you told us, not to our yard. If the scene is different from what was described, the driver calls dispatch and dispatch calls you before anything changes. If anyone ever asks you for a different number than dispatch quoted for the same job, call dispatch from the scene.

New Jersey's Predatory Towing Prevention Act lets consumers bring towing complaints to the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. Quoting first is how we make sure our customers never need to.

The number you approve on the phone is the number you pay.

How the quote is built in common New Jersey situations

A dead battery is one flat roadside price, a commuter car to a nearby shop is a hook fee with little or no extra mileage, an AWD car rides a flatbed at the flatbed hook, and a long run is one number including tolls.

Dead battery in a Linden driveway

One flat jump start price. If the battery will not hold and the car needs to go to a shop, the tow is quoted on the spot as hook plus mileage.

A front-wheel-drive car that will not start in Cranford, going to a shop in Rahway

A wheel-lift hook fee plus a short mileage, most likely within the base mileage.

An all-wheel-drive SUV off I-78, going to a dealer on Route 22

Flatbed hook fee plus mileage to the dealer. The flatbed is required, not an upsell.

A car in a snowbank at the end of a driveway

One flat winch-out price. If it drives afterward, that is the whole bill.

A car going from Union County to Philadelphia

A long-distance quote: hook, mileage, tolls both ways and the return leg, as one number.

Your situation not here? Describe it and the dispatcher builds the quote the same way.

Payment methods

How to pay: cash, card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, with an itemized receipt

We accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and every job ends with an itemized receipt.

Pay on site with cash, a credit or debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The receipt lists the pickup, the destination, the mileage and the service performed. Many roadside plans and insurers reimburse an out-of-network tow when you send them that receipt; check your own policy or plan for what it covers.

Towing price FAQ

Towing price questions New Jersey drivers ask before they call

How a tow is priced, whether nights cost more, how roadside is priced, flatbed versus wheel-lift, and payment.

How much does a tow cost?

A tow is a flat hook fee plus a per-mile rate from pickup to the destination you choose. The dispatcher adds the two on the call and gives you one total before the truck rolls. The receipt matches the quote.

Do you charge more at night, on weekends or on holidays?

No. There is no night, weekend, holiday or fuel surcharge. A call at 3 a.m. on a holiday is priced the same way as a weekday afternoon.

How are roadside services priced?

Each roadside service, jump start, flat tire change, car lockout, fuel delivery and winch out, is one flat price quoted on the call. Fuel delivery is a flat delivery price plus the fuel at cost.

Why is a flatbed priced differently from a wheel-lift?

A flatbed is a larger truck carrying a longer load, so its hook fee is slightly higher. The mileage rate is the same. We only send a flatbed when the vehicle needs one.

What if a roadside call turns into a tow?

You pay for the tow, quoted on the spot as hook plus mileage, not the tow plus a second callout.

What payment do you accept?

Cash, credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, with an itemized receipt.
