Summit from the driver's seat
Summit is roughly 22 minutes from our Linden yard; the calls here run on Route 24, I-78 and Springfield Avenue and the town's own streets and lots.
A hilltop commuter city with a busy downtown, a major train station on the Morris & Essex Lines, Overlook Medical Center, and steep residential streets of large homes. Luxury sedans, AWD SUVs and hospital traffic; the hills ice first and the station and hospital decks generate lockouts and dead batteries.
Driveways on big hillside lots, metered decks downtown and at the station that are too low for a flatbed, and the Overlook hospital garages. Cars are dollied out to the street.
Route 24
Runs along the northern edge with exits at Summit Avenue and Broad Street; breakdowns on the ramps toward I-78.
I-78
Passes the southern edge with the Route 24 interchange; the express/local split near Exit 45.
Springfield Avenue
Downtown's main street continuing to Springfield and New Providence.
Morris Avenue
The road up the hill from Union and Springfield into downtown; ices early.
Commuter lots
Dead batteries and lockouts at Summit station (NJ Transit Morris & Essex Lines) and the Broad Street deck are regular roadside calls, most of them early morning and evening.
